BEREA, Ohio — The Cleveland Browns placed an added emphasis on toughness when Hue Jackson took over as head coach back in January, and they certainly added a player that displayed mental and physical stamina with the selection of former Texas Christian University defensive back Derrick Kindred in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft back in April.

Kindred played almost the entire 2015 season despite having a broken collarbone that he suffered in a practice.

“At TCU, we have great staff around us,” Kindred said in a conference call with the Cleveland media. “Our strength and conditioning coach, he did a great job of keeping me healthy rehab-wise and our trainers did a great job keeping me healthy throughout this whole season, monitoring me and keeping me in rehab.

“I didn’t even have to get surgery on it. They gave me a couple options. Either I had surgery and sat out the whole year; get surgery, put a plate in there and sit out eight weeks or I could play the whole season with it. At the time, I felt like the team needed me to step up and be a leader out there, so I took the risk and took the chance of playing through it with it hurt.”
