GoFrogs: Notes on a Scorecard

ANOTHER RUN TO OMAHA
Congratulations to head coach Jim Schlossnagle, his staff, student-athletes and everyone associated with our baseball program! It was an incredible run to our third straight College World Series appearance! We are the only school in the nation to reach Omaha each of the last three seasons. Along the way, we won the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship, the Fort Worth Regional and a Super Regional in College Station. Coach Schlossnagle always says you want to be playing your best baseball at this time of the year, and we certainly did!

Even after our season ended, the great news around our baseball program continued with Coach Schlossnagle signing a contract extension to remain a Horned Frog for many years to come!

THANK YOU HORNED FROGS NATION!
The great year we enjoyed on the playing fields and courts has been mirrored by your support of the Horned Frogs! We’re very proud to announce a new record-breaking Frog Club Annual Giving total of $13,070,577 for Fiscal Year 2016! We had $39,940,220 in overall athletic giving. This speaks volumes of the passion you have for our student-athletes! We can’t thank you enough for your investment in these young men and women who represent our University and Fort Worth so well!

ANOTHER SELLOUT
For the fourth time in five seasons, we have a sellout of football season tickets! This year’s total is 34,000! We truly appreciate you creating an unbelievable home-field advantage and atmosphere in Amon G. Carter Stadium!

TICKET CHANGE

We’ve been notified of a change in ticket price for our Friday, Sept. 23, football game at SMU. The Mustangs have reduced the price of their game ticket from $60 to $50. If you have already purchased a ticket through us for the game, your account will be credited $10.

SOCCER AND VOLLEYBALL SEASON TICKETS AVAILABLE
While football is sold out, we do have soccer and volleyball season tickets available. Both go on sale Tuesday, July 5. Soccer season tickets for 10 home matches are just $35 for adults and $25 for youth. Volleyball season tickets are $75 for adults and $50 for youth. Just call (817) 257-FROG.

PARKING STILL AVAILABLE

We still have football gameday parking spots available in the LaDainian Tomlinson Parking Garage. The garage provides a guaranteed space on gamedays, a covered area from weather elements and a location directly next to Frog Alley and Amon G. Carter Stadium.

If you have any questions, please contact our TCU Frog Club Office at (817) 257-7700. They’ll provide you a complete rundown, soup to nuts, of everything parking related for the coming season.

THE MICAH AHEARN TCU BASEBALL SCHOLARSHIP
As you know, Micah Ahearn is a big part of our baseball program and an inspiration to our student-athletes and coaches. We recently had a group of donors generously step forward to establish The Micah Ahern TCU Baseball Scholarship.

It is truly fitting that this scholarship be awarded every year to the student-athlete who embraces the notion to Never Ever Give Up and who possesses the strength and courage that our Superhero Micah embodies every day.

If you or someone you know is interested in giving to this scholarship, please see below:

FROM THE SOCIAL MEDIA SIDE
In an effort to empower Horned Frogs everywhere to show their excitement for our baseball program in Omaha, we provided fans with branded cover photos for their personal social media accounts, lock screens for their mobile devices, individual player emojis for TCU’s FrogMoji keyboard and Snapchat filters at TD Ameritrade Stadium.

Fans also had the opportunity to contribute to the Snap Your Seat campaign on Snapchat, sending a photo of where they were watching the Horned Frogs, which generated submissions from 31 different states and reached globally to locations such as Sydney, London and the Dominican Republic.

Thanks to our engaged and passionate fan base, TCU’s social properties generated over 8 million impressions during the two weeks surrounding the College World Series.

ANOTHER GENERATION

As our men’s all-time leading scorer, Darrell Browder is a pretty magical name in TCU basketball history. It will be great to have his son, London, as a freshman on campus this fall. In the below photo, we see Darrell, London and longtime NBA guard Jason “Jet” Terry at TCU Freshman Orientation. Jet’s daughter, Jasionna, will also be a TCU freshman this fall.

NEW FACES

I am pleased to welcome Chris Salters to the TCU Athletics family. He serves as our new director of video productions. Chris cut his teeth in video productions as a student assistant for 12th Man Productions at Texas A&M before moving to Hollywood where he spent over four years working for Trailer Park, Inc., as a content editor and freelance editor.

Chris created behind-the-scenes special features for DVD, Blu-ray and streaming video, as well as edited featurettes and commercials for theatrical marketing campaigns including Universal Studio’s Jurassic World, Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out and Netflix/Marvel’s Daredevil.

Recently, Chris won a Silver Telly Award for editing “InGen Technologies: Tomorrow, Today” (CLICK HERE) and a Bronze Telly Award for editing “Get To Know Your Emotions” (CLICK HERE). Immediately prior to joining TCU’s new athletics video productions department, Chris created the marketing and advertising elements for NASCAR and INDYCAR for the Texas Motor Speedway.

ON THE DOCKET

We have three student-athletes competing for Olympic spots this weekend. Incoming freshman women’s swimmer Elise Forzley will be in the 200 backstroke at Friday’s U.S. Olympic Trials in Omaha, while track and field’s Ronnie Baker and Brianna McGhee will run in the 100 meters and 100 hurdles, respectively, in Eugene, Ore. You can see Ronnie and Brianna in action Saturday on NBC.

NAME THE MOVIE QUOTE

Last Week’s Answer: My friend TCU Doug Strout from Montgomery, Ala., submitted the following line from Arthur, “Fish must get awfully tired of seafood.”

This Week’s Question: “Charlie’s like origami, he folds under pressure.”

COMPLIANCE CORNER
Intha Rough is a golf student-athlete at Ocean State University. Intha had a bit of a rough season with his chip shots and wants to make sure he is doing the right things over the summer to improve his technique. Intha asks the coach if he can set up a meeting with him one day this summer to discuss ways he can get better.

Is this permissible?

Yes with conditions. NCAA Official Interpretation- 11/7/91- Individual consultation with a coach initiated voluntarily by a student-athlete – states that individual consultation with a coaching staff member initiated voluntarily by a student-athlete is not a countable athletically related activity, provided any discussion between the coach and the student-athlete is limited to general counseling activities and does not involve activities set forth in 17.02.12.1 (e.g., chalk talk; use of equipment relating to the sport; field, floor or on-court activity).

KEEP IN TOUCH
