GoFrogs: Barjon, Barrett Named PING All-Americans

FORT WORTH — TCU men’s golfers Paul Barjon and Chelso Barrett are both part of the Division I PING All-America teams, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Thursday.

Barjon, a senior, was a third team selection while Barrett, a junior, was named to the honorable mention list. Barjon was also honorable mention for the Golfweek Division I All-American team.

A native of New Caledonia, Barjon’s All-America honors are added to a list of 2016 honors that includes a PING All-Region selection, an All-Big 12 selection, Academic All-Big 12 honors and a Big 12 Golfer of the Month award in March.

Barjon led the Frogs with a 71.90 scoring average, seven top 10 finishes and 11 sub-70 rounds in 2016. He tied for second at the Big 12 Championship, tied for third at the NCAA Albuquerque Regional, then capped his senior season by making the cut and finishing 22nd at the NCAA Championships.

Barrett, a native of Keene, N.H., was second on the team with a 73.42 scoring average and eight sub-70 rounds. He had two second place finishes earlier in the season, then closed the year by making the cut and finishing 13th at the NCAA Championships.

Barjon and Barrett become the 19th and 20th All-Americans in TCU men’s golf selections while there selections are the 26th and 27th in program history. TCU has now had at least one All-America selection in five straight seasons.

Barrett and Barjon become the first teammates to earn All-America honors in the same season since Tom Hoge and James Sacheckwere both PING All-America honorable mention in 2009.
