Lakendrick Van Zandt talks TCU offer

TCU is on the road this summer hosting satellite camps across the Lone Star State.  After hosting a camp in Kilgore last week, the TCU staff was able to evaluate several targets with their own eyes and determine if they were worthy of a coveted offer in the 2017 class.

Hollywood may make movies about West Texas football, but fans know you fill rosters with East Texas football players.  Henderson, Texas safety Lakendrick Van Zandt participated in the East Texas Camp, earning a TCU offer the following day.  Along with teammate and fellow TCU offer Trestan Ebner, Van Zandt put on a clinic highlighting his range, speed and quick feet.  Projected to play on the defensive side of the ball, Van Zandt is the type of player these camps are designed to highlight.

TCU’s offer the day after the camp was followed by an offer from SMU, Houston, Tulane, Memphis, Oklahoma State, and Tulsa.  KillerFrogs caught up with Van Zandt the day he was offered.  His comments reflect his excitement about this offer and his plans moving forward.

What is your perception of TCU football?

It means a lot to get an offer from TCU! Mainly because I’ve always watched and planned on playing at TCU since I was a little boy! Nobody could tell me different!

What is your impression of the TCU staff?

And the main thing about TCU that drew my attention at the camp was their coaching staff.  The way they keep you up, make sure you’re on top of everything, pushing you to be great! They never bring you down or make you feel bad. They always motivate you, push you hard and make you keep pushing until you got it down.  That’s what I mainly like about the program!

Do you have a timeline for your commitment?

And I’m really thinking about this commitment but have to wait on these other options to come along!

While Van Vandt will understandably want to take his time, keep an eye on this East Texas athlete.  A commitment could follow.  His highlight video below shows why he would be a perfect fit at TCU playing for the best defensive mind in the game.
