GoFrogs: M. Golf Heading to Albuquerque Regional

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The TCU men’s golf team will compete in an NCAA Regional for the 27th consecutive season beginning Monday when the Horned Frogs tee it up in the first round of the three-day NCAA Albuquerque Regional at the par-72, 7,562-yard UNM Championship Course.

The Horned Frogs, who were tabbed a No. 9 seed, will tee off from the No. 1 tee with New Mexico and Texas Tech at 8:55 a.m. MT, 9:06 a.m., 9:17 a.m., 9:28 a.m. and 9:39 a.m. TCU will go with the same line up as it did for the Big 12 Conference Championships: Paul Barjon, a two-time winner this year and All-Big 12 selection; Ryan Books, winner of the El Macero Classic; Giulio Castagnara, who placed second at the Redhawk Invitational; Chelso Barrett, who placed second at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate; and Pierre Mazier, who has two top-13 finishes this season.

In addition to No. 52 TCU, No. 46 Texas Tech and host No. 38 New Mexico, No. 3 USC; No. 11 Arizona State; No. 22 San Diego State; No. 27 Texas A&M; No. 34 NC State; and No. 59 Iowa, along with automatic qualifiers Liberty (No. 64), Army (No. 116), Cleveland State (No. 142) and Wagner (No. 246), will participate in the event.

The top five teams from each of the nation’s six regional sites will advance to compete at the NCAA Championship that will be held May 27 through June 1 at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Oregon. In addition to those teams, the top individual finisher not on one of the advancing squads will also earn a bid to compete at nationals.

Last year, the Horned Frogs advanced to the NCAA Championship after a fourth-place showing at the NCAA Washington Regional, carding a 10-under 54-hole total of 854 for their fourth-straight top-five finish and eighth overall of the season. TCU finished in 10th-place at the NCAA Championships for the programs fourth top-10 showing all-time. The Horned Frogs recorded an 11-over 299 on their final found, missing the match play portion of the NCAA Championships by seven strokes.
