GoFrogs: Skoug Accepts USA Baseball CNT Invite

FORT WORTH – TCU sophomore catcher Evan Skoug has been invited to the 2016 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. He becomes the eighth Horned Frog in program history to play for the team.

“This is one of the highest honors that an amateur baseball player can achieve,” said head coach Jim Schlossnagle. “Evan is truly deserving and has worked hard to improve his entire game. I have no doubt that he will represent his family, TCU and the United States at the highest possible level as he travels the world this summer.”

Skoug has played in all 42 games and started 41 this season for the nationally-ranked baseball team. He boasts a .309 batting average and leads the team with 39 RBIs. Skoug also leads the team and is tied for first in the Big 12 with 16 doubles while also tying his career high with seven home runs.

Additionally, Danny Wheat has been named the team’s head athletic trainer. It will be Wheat’s fourth tour with the CNT and his sixth with USA Baseball. Wheat has served as the head athletic trainer for the 2010, 2011 and 2013 Collegiate National Teams as well as working with the 2003 and 2009 World Cup squads.

Jake Arrieta was the first Horned Frog to earn a spot on the National Team roster, doing so in 2006, the same year Jim Schlossnagleserved as an assistant coach. In 2010 Kyle Winkler pitched for Team USA. TCU had a pair of representatives in 2011 as Josh Elanderand Andrew Mitchell participated on the squad. The Frogs had three player representatives in 2013 as Riley Ferrell, Brandon Finneganand Preston Morrison were on the squad that was managed by Schlossnagle.
