GoFrogs: Baker Stays on Bowerman Watch List

FORT WORTH — Senior Ronnie Baker remained on May’s edition of The Bowerman Watch List, the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Thursday.

The Bowerman is awarded each year to the top male and female collegiate athlete in NCAA track & field. It is the highest individual honor in the sport.

Since the preseason announcement, Baker has held his spot on the Watch List every month this year.

The Louisville, Ky. native currently holds the NCAA’s fastest time in the 100 meters after opening the indoor season with a 9.95 finish. He is one of only two collegiate athletes to run sub-10 seconds this season.

Baker also anchored TCU’s 4×100 relay team who took home gold at the 2016 Texas Relays in March. Along with junior Raymond Bozmans, senior Sam Watts and freshman Darrion Flowers, Baker and the Horned Frogs rank fourth in the nation with a time of 39.08.

In his lone 200-meter performance of the season, Baker earned a regional qualifying time of 20.64 at the Tom Jones Memorial, ranking 23rd in the NCAA.

The two-time NCAA Champion will showcase his talents next as the Frogs host the 2016 Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championship May 13-15 at the Lowdon Complex in Fort Worth.
