Washington Post: Scot McCloughan calls Josh Doctson ‘a slam dunk’

From the day he was hired, Washington Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan has preached that his draft-day philosophy was to take the best player available, regardless of position.

On Monday, with the 2016 NFL draft in his rear-view mirror, McCloughan took obvious delight in pointing out that he’d lived up to his word in selecting wide receiver Josh Doctson with the 22nd overall pick, when virtually every mock draft had him selecting one of the many attractive defensive linemen available.

“Now you guys understand what I preach about: I’m sure none of you thought we’d pick a receiver, because we’ve got depth,” McCloughan said, fielding post-draft questions at Redskins Park. “But that was the best football player on the board.” …
