San Antonio Business Journal: Valero Alamo Bowl scores major economic win for San Antonio

The final Valero Alamo Bowl stat that matters most for San Antonio is in, and January’s game generated $45.8 million in total economic impact. That’s the findings in a new study by Strategic Marketing Services and SportsEconomics, which indicates that direct visitor spending for the bowl game, featuring TCU and Oregon, was $25 million.

The economic impact from the most recent Alamo Bowl is just shy of the $45.9 million the previous game, a 40-35 thriller between UCLA and Kansas State won by the Bruins, generated for the city.

The TCU-Oregon Alamo Bowl attracted 51,990 incremental visitors. That number is second only to the 55,174 visitors who traveled to San Antonio for the 2007 Alamo Bowl that featured Texas A&M and Penn State. …
