Scott Nix Community Service Award

“Even if you met Scott once, he made you feel like you’d known him your whole life. He had a knack for making someone feel like they were the most important person in the world.”

Truer words have never been written about the man who animated KillerFrogs for so many years.  As each of us who knew Scott Nix have grieved his death, there will now be an award to remember his life.

TCU FCA Directer and Character Coach Chauncey Franks has announced the creation of the TCU FCA Scott Nix Community Service Award.  This award will recognize a member of the Fort Worth and TCU community who demonstrates a passion Christ, TCU Student Athletes, and the Fort Worth community.  KillerFrogs caught up with Franks as he shared about the creation of the Scott Nix Community Service Award.

“I met Scott Nix about a year ago while attending worship at Water Mark Church in Fort Worth.  I had know about him for years from KillerFrogs, social media, and the hilarious videos he made.  We quickly connected and spent the first ten minutes of worship talking and getting to know each other.  We didn’t care that everyone was looking at us as we talked at church.  He told me about the impact of FCA on his life when he was at TCU and offered to do anything he could to help us out.  That week he added 25 new name to our invitation list to support our annual banquet”

Franks says that it was at Scott’s memorial service that he began to understand the full impact of FCA on his life and how Scott’s memory could continue to impact other student athletes.

“At his memorial service FCA was mentioned four different times.  It clearly impacted him during his time at TCU as a student athlete.  A few weeks later I saw a picture on Facebook from his time at TCU.  It was him and about ten other guys from FCA.”

Franks says that after Scott’s memorial service God really began to impress upon his heart the need for the creation of this award.  He is excited to see what God will do with it over the years, hoping it will draw people closer to God through the memory of this man.

“Scott was an imperfect man who was used by God.  God clearly grabbed ahold of Scott’s heart.  He was serious about growing in his faith and had a passion for TCU and FCA. This annual award will honor those who share his passion for Christ, TCU student athletes and FCA.”

There is a clear line between to work of FCA and the life of Scott Nix.  The gratitude for his life that was recorded on this board is thanks for a life shaped by God and shaped by FCA during his time at TCU.  Take the time today to not only remember Scott’s life, but to give thanks for the work of good men like Chauncey Franks who give of themselves to help mold the faith and character of student athletes.

Student athletes today face more temptation than most of us could ever withstand.  The character of the program has the fingerprints of Franks all over it.  Gary Patterson himself has said that Franks is an indispensable member of the staff.  Who knows, there might be another Scott Nix in FCA right now.  Lord help us, literally.

The FCA Annual Banquet will take place April 14th at 7PM.  Details to attended are found on the link below.  Follow the link to also see videos from current TCU players talking about their faith and the impact of FCA.
