Frogs Fall 71-58 at No. 8/7 Texas

Final Stats |  Notes

AUSTIN, Texas — Senior All-America candidate Zahna Medley had 15 points to pace four Frogs in double figures as TCU fell 71-58 to No. 8/7 Texas at the Frank Erwin Center on Saturday night.

Medley’s 15 points puts her just two points shy of tying Sandora Irvin for the TCU career mark and three away from setting a new mark. Irvin scored a school record 1,892 career points during her time in Fort Worth that ended in 2005. In addition to Medley’s scoring prowess on the night, Jada Butts had 12 points while AJ Alix and Jordan Moore each added 10 points.

TCU shot just 32.1 percent in the game and allowed the Longhorns to make 11-of-13 shots in the second quarter to help pull away from the Frogs.

TCU and Texas played a tight one in the opening 13 minutes of the game as TCU led 20-19 with 6:32 to go in the second quarter with neither team scoring more than four straight points in the first 13 minutes of play.

The Longhorns then found a run, putting together seven straight to go up 26-20 and force a TCU timeout. The Frogs scored five straight thanks to an AJ Alix three and two free throws from Carol Willie to pull within one at 26-25 with 3:21 to go before the Longhorns went on a 10-2 run to end the half.

The Texas offensive effort in the second quarter was the difference in helping them pull away as they hit 11 of their final 12 shots in the period and 11-of-13 overall to erase their 4-of-17 effort in the first quarter. The Longhorns led 36-27 at the halftime break.

TCU cut a 12-point deficit early in the third quarter at 41-29 down to four as Medley heated up. Medley knocked down a three to cut it to 41-32 and continued to exchange baskets before the Frogs eventually went on a 7-0 run jumpstarted by another Medley three. Medley had 10 points in the third quarter during the run that helped the Frogs pull within four at 45-41 on Medley’s basket with 4:04 to go in the third.

The Longhorns answered with eight straight points, including a pair of threes, to push the lead to 53-41 with 2:11 to go before the Frogs scored the final three of the quarter to pull within nine.

The Longhorns eventually led by as many as 16 points in the fourth quarter on their way to the 13-point win over the Frogs.
