Frogs Fall 77-64 in Norman to No. 20/19 OU

Final Stats |  Notes

NORMAN, Okla. — TCU answered multiple Oklahoma runs but a 10-0 fourth quarter spark by the Sooners proved to be the difference as OU beat the Horned Frogs 77-64 on Saturday afternoon at the Lloyd Noble Center.

No. 20/19 Oklahoma (16-6, 7-4) shot 66.7 percent in the second half and used a 10-0 run in the fourth quarter to erase a 55-52 TCU lead following a three-point play from freshman Jordan Moore, who played a conference-high 27 minutes and had nine points off the TCU bench. TCU (12-10, 4-7), who entered the game as one of the nation’s top three-point shooting teams converted on just 2-of-15 attempts but were still able to shoot 44.6 percent in the game.

After missing their first shot, the Sooners made their next five shots and built a quick 8-0 and 10-2 lead. AJ Alix responded with a three-point play to kickstart the Frogs. After jumping ahead 12-5 with 4:12 to go in the first quarter, TCU went on a 10-2 run to end the first quarter and TCU led 15-14 at the end of the quarter, capped by two baskets by Hamilton.

Hamilton opened the second quarter with a basket before the Sooners ended TCU’s 10-0 and 12-2 run with a three from Derica Wyatt to tie the game at 17-17 with 8:26 to go in the second quarter. It ended a four-minute streak with a basket for the Sooners.

The teams continued to fight back and forth for the remainder of the half and eventually ended in a 29-29 tie at the break. TCU was able to overcome an 0-of-7 effort from downtown in the opening half to keep the score tight and allowed just four second chance points in the opening half.

Just as they did in the opening half, the Sooners scored eight straight out of the second half break to go up 37-29 before Alix responded with a basket with 6:09 to go in the third quarter and Jada Butts had a three-point play with 5:41 to go in the third to cut it to three at 37-34. The Frogs eventually tied the game at 41-41 on a Medley three-point play and took a 44-42 lead on a three from Medley, TCU’s first of the game.

Hamilton’s basket with 2:00 put TCU up 47-44 and marked the seventh consecutive made field goal for the Frogs before back-to-back baskets for the Sooners helped eventually give them a one-point edge going into the fourth quarter.

After a three from the Sooners with 9:14 to go in the game, an Alix basket and Moore three-point play gave TCU the 55-52 lead that was answered by the Sooner 10-0 run.

TCU fought back to within four at 62-58 but never got closer in suffering their second loss to the Sooners this season after holding a second half lead.

Hamilton finished with 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting while Butts concluded the day with a game-high 16 points and six rebounds. Medley finished with eight points but was just 1-of-7 from three-point range.
