GoFrogs: Medley Moves into 2nd on TCU Career Scoring List

STILLWATER, Okla. —Zahna Medleymoved into 2nd place on the TCU career scoring list on Saturday night as TCU fell 80-52 at Gallagher-Iba Arena to Oklahoma State.

Medley passed TCU greatHelena Sverrisdottiron the all-time scoring list with a jumper in the lane with 8:46 to go in the game that pushed her past Sverrisdottir’s 1,764 career total. Medley, the fastest player to reach 1,000 career points in program history, is now on a quest to pass TCU great Sandora Irvin’s 1,892 career points during her Horned Frog career that lasted from 2002-2005. Medley finished the night with 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting.

After sweeping Oklahoma State (16-4, 6-3) last season, the Frogs suffered their first loss to the Cowgirls since the 2013-14 season.

TCU (12-9, 4-6) shot just 33.9 percenting, including a 26.7 percent clip in the second half of play. TCU gave up 40 points in the paint and were outrebounded 43-29 in being denied their third road league win of the season.

After TCU pulled within three at 21-18 on a basket fromVeja Hamiltonin the final seconds of the first quarter, the Cowgirls scored the first eight points of the second quarter to build their first double-digit lead of the game at 29-18.

The Frogs answered with consecutive baskets byCaitlin DiazandAJ Alixbefore OSU answered with a three to extend the lead back to 10. Another basket from Diaz cut it to eight with 5:53 to go in the half and a three-point play from Diaz with 4:53 left cut the lead to nine at 36-27 before the Cowgirls scored eight straight and eventually extended the lead to 18 at 48-30 as TCU missed its final six shots of the half.

Turnovers were the biggest cause of the growing Oklahoma State lead in the first half as TCU committed 10 in the opening 20 minutes that resulted in 13 points. TCU shot 41.4 percent and were shooting over 50.0 percent for much of the opening half before missing the final six shots of the half.

TCU scored the first five points out of the halftime break thanks to a three fromAJ Alixand a basket from Medley before going cold again, TCU missed its next nine shots as the lead ballooned to 23 at 60-37. The only points for the Frogs during the span was a pair of free throws with 3:18 remaining in the period to end a six minute scoring drought.
